I was at lunch
around 2PM when I heard the sound of a regular passenger jet flying by.... but didifferent because
it was WAAAAY louder. I looked up and saw this thing flying by hella quick.
It was a very dark grey, fast, loud with 2 septic tank looking things on the inner wings and two skinny things on the wing tips. Wings angled back and were super thick AF. The main body was thin. The tail I don't remember too much.
Ay idea my fellow rad peeps

B-57? They aren’t particularly fast though
EDIT: I should point out, I don’t think many of those still fly. NASA does have a WB-57 though.

Pretty sure that a BIC GEL-57...

Canberra was what I leaped to - I kind of want it to be true.

I see no engines and wingtip pylons. Makes it easy.
With drop tanks:

Yeah, the B-52s are pretty good...

It’s a paper airplane.
Lol. I couldn’t resist. I have no idea... sorry.

A JetStar ? These things are old, loud, and carry s eptic tanks at all time.
You should ask TTYYMMMNNNOOOOPPP, he knows about planes ....

Any F-18's still in use would be F/A-18E or F.

They have been known to be in the Houston area:
However, they are white, have straight wings, and nothing on the wingtip, so I don’t think they are a great match. Some pictures show it equipped with additional pods farther out on the wing:

Hawker Hunter with bags is what I instantly though when looking at the picture.

Maybe with drop tanks:

The one true answer.

B- 57s don’t have swept wings though.

Would something like an EA-18 Growler fit too?

Seems like the wings are a bit too straight, and of course the tail is different (though he said he didn’t get a good look).

I also forgot to note that I’m thinking F-16 specifically because of ANG. Also because they are loud motherfuckers. You know when they’re flying at the air show.

I was just thinking that the way the wing is shaped could account for him saying the wings were “super thick AF” but you’re right that the tail is pretty unique.

Yes, I updated with drop tank photos. I’m thinking ANG ferry flight since they still primarily fly F-16C/D.

Hmm, nothing on the wingtip, but could be close. Apparently there are a few still airworthy.

Considering he is in Houston, that’s a very good guess.
![]() 02/11/2019 at 16:42 |

Extremely unlikely since the only F/A-18's still in service would be E/F’s.
![]() 02/11/2019 at 16:49 |

Huh? C, D, and G are all in service (Wikipedia even says there are still some A’s kicking around, though I don’t know if that is up to date) ?

Was it Bigly Yuge? Military plane? B1-B lancer perhaps?
![]() 02/11/2019 at 16:55 |

Well, I’m no military guy, but apparently there are still some USMC and a few Naval reserves flying Hornets. TIL! (According to Wikipedia though, all active Navy squadrons are F/ A-18E/F excluding reserve. )
![]() 02/11/2019 at 17:02 |

Yep, the Navy wants to be done with the legacy Hornets, but the Marines have been holding out for their F-35s.

You know it’s gotta be good when even the end-users describe it a pile of shit that can’t even do the one thing it’s supposed to be unbeatable at.

A-10?

I’m actually optimistic about the plane itself, from what I’ve read coming out of those using it recently.
The program though is a massive disaster, and probably should have been canceled ages ago. Certainly it should count as a black mark against Lockheed anytime they bid on projects going forward.

I got to turn wrenches on some nearly-new Australian EA-18Gs about a year ago in Las Vegas. They’re quite a machine, and by far were the newest/cleanest aircraft I’ve ever gotten to lay hands on.

Are you kidding? The people who voted for it will be making a killing on the stock for decades to come, especially when they vote for the program to fail to fix some more of the design defects upgrade them!
